What the Ortho Topper 4" changes
Four inches of firm foam, which is enough to largely replace how your bed feels rather than merely adjust it. Choose it when the mattress underneath is very firm -- a hard foam or coir base you find genuinely uncomfortable -- or when you are heavier and a thinner topper compresses fully under you so you still feel the mattress through it.
When thicker is the wrong answer
Four inches on an already-medium mattress can let the hips sink further than the shoulders, which is the same misalignment a sagging bed causes.
