Mattress price in India: what a good one costs

Price bands by type, what you are actually paying for, and where money gets wasted.

Search mattress price in India and you will see queen mattresses listed for a few thousand rupees and others for well over a lakh. Both can be "good" for someone. The real question is how much does a good mattress cost for your needs, and which parts of the price are paying for materials versus marketing.

Rough price bands by type

These are broad, approximate ranges for a queen size in the Indian market. They move with brand, size, thickness and sales, so use them only to get your bearings:

TypeTypical range (queen)What you usually get
Basic PU foam / coirUnder ₹8,000Firm or soft, but support often fades quickly
HR foam / entry memory foamRoughly ₹8,000 – ₹20,000Better durability and support; where most online foam brands sit
Layered memory foam, hybrid, pocket springRoughly ₹20,000 – ₹45,000More layers, more feel options, often showroom brands
Natural latex, luxury hybrids₹45,000 and abovePremium materials — plus a lot of branding

A single or double costs noticeably less than a queen; a king costs more. Always compare the same size.

What actually drives the cost

Where people waste money

Inflated MRP "discounts"

A mattress marked "MRP ₹40,000, now ₹12,000" was never a ₹40,000 mattress. Ignore the strikethrough price and compare what you actually pay against the materials you actually get.

Buzzword layers

"Gel-infused", "graphite", "copper", "cooling crystal" — some of these do small things, but they are often thin layers used to justify a higher price. Ask what the core is made of.

Buying firmer or thicker than you need

An extra-firm mattress is not "more orthopaedic", and a 10-inch mattress is not twice as supportive as a 5-inch one. Match firmness to your weight and position — our mattress firmness guide helps.

Going too cheap

The opposite mistake. A very cheap low-density foam mattress can sag within a couple of years, so you end up buying twice. Spread over the years you use it, a durable HR foam mattress usually costs less per night.

Is a more expensive mattress better for your back?

Not necessarily. Price tracks materials, layers and brand far more than it tracks spinal support. A well-matched medium-firm HR foam mattress in the mid band can support your back better than a soft luxury mattress costing several times more. Fit beats price.

How to set a sensible budget

Where Beditation fits

We make our mattresses at our own factory in Jodhpur and sell them online, factory-direct, so there is no dealer or showroom margin in the price. Every mattress uses BIS-compliant HR foam, delivery is free across India (typically 5–7 working days), and eligible items can be returned within 7 days. Our prices change with sizes and offers, so check current prices on each mattress page rather than relying on any figure in an article. Frequently asked questions

How much does a good mattress cost in India?

For a queen-size HR foam or entry memory foam mattress, a broad range of roughly ₹8,000 to ₹20,000 covers most well-made online options. Prices vary by size, thickness and brand, so compare like for like.

Why are showroom mattresses more expensive?

Showroom prices usually include distributor, dealer and retail margins, plus advertising and rent. Factory-direct online brands skip most of those costs.

Is a costly mattress better for back pain?

Not automatically. Back support depends on firmness and a resilient core, not on price. A medium-firm HR foam mattress often suits back pain better than a soft luxury mattress.

Are big mattress discounts real?

Often not. Many mattresses carry an inflated MRP so the "discount" looks large. Judge the final price against the foam type, density and thickness.
