Memory foam vs fibre pillows

How the two differ on support, heat, lifespan and price.

The two most common pillow fills behave very differently over a night and over a year. Neither is better outright — they fail in opposite directions, and which failure you mind more should decide it.

Memory foam

Memory foam softens with body heat and takes the shape of your head, then recovers when you move. The practical benefit is that it holds a consistent loft — the height you lie down on is roughly the height you still have at 4am. That consistency is why it suits anyone whose neck is sensitive to position.

The trade-offs are real. It sleeps warmer, because the same dense structure that supports you also traps heat. It cannot be reshaped — you get the profile you bought. And a new one usually has a manufacturing smell that takes a few days to clear.

Fibre

Fibre pillows are light, breathable, inexpensive and easy to punch back into shape. If you like a pillow you can fold, scrunch and rearrange through the night, fibre is the only one of the two that lets you.

The weakness is that they flatten. Fibre compresses under sustained pressure and does not fully recover, so a pillow that was the right height in month one is often too low by month eight. That gradual change is hard to notice and a common hidden cause of morning neck stiffness.

Which suits your position

Cost over time

Compare on years, not on price. A fibre pillow at a third of the cost replaced twice as often is not obviously cheaper, and for the middle stretch of its life it is delivering the wrong height. If you have ever bought a pillow, been happy for a while, then quietly started sleeping badly again, that is usually what happened.

Our pillows

Both of our adult pillows are foam. The Dreamer Memory Pillow is the softer memory-foam option; the Cervical Neck Pillow is firmer and contoured for neck support. Both are made from BIS-compliant foam at our Jodhpur factory with free delivery across India. For sizing by position, see how to choose a pillow.
